The University of Oriente adopted the EDUCATIONAL AND PEDAGOGICAL MODEL FOR COMPETENCES, which responds to those of the pedagogical intentionality, formulated from the Vision and the institutional Mission in force, focused on actions of the Strategic Plan 2011-2015 and, it is part of the Educational curriculum: purposes, contents, methodology, sequencing, resources and evaluation, as well as, the Legal Foundation of the Higher Education Level and the National Educational System, the expectations of the third millennium, updated theoretical concepts and Social Plan of the Ministry of Education Of El Salvador. Its general objective allows: to offer a coherent educational and pedagogical model that guides in its institutional application and in all its processes the formation of highly competent, qualified professionals with human sensitivity and sound ethical principles, capable of adapting in an agile, timely manner and relevant to the  changes in technology, knowledge and communication; It is defined as a diagnostic and conceptual synthesis that allows the educational institution to base its educational intentions more relevant to guide with consistency and relevance their formative processes in all careers.

Its axis by competencies is focused on learning and its implications for the integral formation of the college student, since its main commitment is to train professionals who are whole, highly qualified and committed to a society in continuous changes.

It is a formal system updated in its evolution, with axes of change, which in its characterization seeks the integration of conceptual, procedural and attitudinal learning, interrelating with other contemporary models, updating skills, new teacher practices, curricular flexibility, educational and pedagogical administration of academic excellence; as well as, basic agents of the educational community with the scientific knowledge to preserve, innovate, produce or recreate it within a social, historical, geographic and culturally determined context.
